The
Holy Spirit's Personhood
The
Holy Spirit is a Person.
Jesus
repeatedly referred to the Holy Spirit as a Person - 'He.'
-
...the Holy Spirit... He
will teach you all things... (Jn 14:26)
-
When the Helper comes... that is the Spirit of truth... He...
(Jn 15:26)
-
And He, when He
comes, will convict the world... (Jn 16:8)
(and
most assuredly Jesus knows all about the Holy Spirit!)
-
But one and the same Spirit works all these things… as He
wills (1 Cor
12:11).
-
And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness... but
the Spirit Himself intercedes for us... (Rm 8:26)
Notes
:
The Holy Spirit speaks, teaches, loves, gives gifts as He wills,
forbids things at times (as He did with Paul), convicts,
regenerates, intercedes, guides, and does many other things.
:
The Holy Spirit is not a mere force or power as some heretically
teach, but a Person.

The
Holy Spirit's Deity
The
Holy Spirit is God.
-
But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart
to lie to the Holy Spirit... You have not lied to men, but to
God." (Acts

-
Now the Lord is the Spirit... (2 Cor 3:17)
Some
of the actions and words spoken of God are said to be of the
Holy Spirit.
a.
For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said,
"I will dwell in them and walk among them..." (2 Cor
6:16b)
b.
...your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you... (1
Cor 6:19b)
Some
of the actions and words spoken of God in the Old Testament, are
in the New Testament spoken of the Holy Spirit.
a.
God spoke: Then I heard the voice
of the Lord, saying... "Go, and tell this people: keep on
listening, but do not perceive; keep on looking but do not
understand." (Is 6:8-9)
b.
Attributed to the Holy Spirit:
"The Holy Spirit rightly spoke through Isaiah the prophet
to your fathers, saying, "Go to this people and say, you
will keep on hearing, but will not understand..." (Acts
28:25b-26a)

The grace of the Lord
Jesus Christ, and the love of God,

-
...to those... who are chosen according to the foreknowledge of God
the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit,
that you may obey Jesus
Christ and be sprinkled with His blood... (1 Pt 1:1b-2)
-
...and he saw the Spirit
of God descending as a dove, and coming upon Him [Jesus], and behold, a voice
out of the heavens, saying, "This is My beloved Son in
whom I am well-pleased." (Mt 3:16b-17)
-
He [God the Father]
saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in
righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of
regeration and renewing by the Holy
Spirit whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus
Christ our Savior... (Titus 3:5-6)

The
Holy Spirit's Work in Our Lives
There
are a great many things God's Holy Spirit does in our lives,
including the following:
a.
guides us into all truth and glorifies Jesus
-
But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into
all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but
whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you
what is to come. He shall glorify Me; for He shall take of Mine,
and shall disclose it to you (Jn
16:13-14).
b.
teaches and leads us
-
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My
name, He will teach you all things... (Jn 14:26a)
-
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the
Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things freely
given to us by God... (1 Cor 2:12)
-
For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons
of God (Rm
8:14).
c.
helps us, intercedes for us
-
And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we
do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself
intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words... (Rm 8:26)
d.
gives gifts (manifestations of the Spirit) to us to employ for
serving others
-
But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the
common good. ... But one and the same Spirit works all these
things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills
(1 Cor 12:7,11).
-
As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving
one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God (1 Pt
4:10).
e.
empowers us to be His witnesses
-
...but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come
upon you; and you shall be My witnesses... (Acts 1:8a)
f.
fills us
-
...be filled with the Spirit... (Eph 5:18b)
g.
bears fruit in us
-
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control;
against such things there is no law (Gal 5:22-23).
Notes
:
The Holy Spirit does the above things, and so much more!
