For
years we have been blessed by a ministry called 'Bibles For the
World.' It's founders are Rochunga Pudaite and his wife Mawii.
They are from the Hmar tribe in
India,
and presently reside in
Colorado
where this ministry is based.
They
have been involved in the recent massive
outreach to the Dalits (Untouchables) and many
others in India,
as well as the 'establishment
of many village schools and churches,
a hospital and a seminary' in
Asia,
and supporting and educating 'thousands of needy children.'
Their most significant outreach, in our humble
opinion, has been to get God's life-giving Word
into the hands of many who otherwise may never
have been able to read it - by MAILING free
Bibles, New Testaments, and Scripture portions
DIRECTLY TO PEOPLE'S HOMES (over 16 million at
present to over 100 countries). We find this to
be an extremely exciting work, which we support.
The
story of Rochunga's life and ministry is told through two main
books - 'God's Tribesman' by James and Marti Hefley (an older
version), and 'Fire On the Hills' by Joe Musser with James and
Marti Hefley (a more recent version), and a movie called 'Beyond
the Next Mountain' (one of our family's all-time favorite
movies). We highly recommend reading the books and viewing the
movie (with a very minor
caveat for the movie for younger
children - parents may want to view it first).
Through
this ministry we've seen the 'India Children's Choir' perform (totally
awesome!) which tells the story of how God and His Word came to
the Hmar people through two key people - Watkin Roberts (a
missionary) and Rochunga Pudaite (who translated the Bible into
the Hmar language). At the end of the performance these young
children fan out into the audience to give the people a warm hug
- something not soon forgotten. The irony of these precious
ones, from a country and life situation lacking the comforts and
advantages we in
America
have, extending kindness and love to us - is not lost.
Our
family has also been blessed to be able to send Bibles to other
parts of the world through this ministry. For a modest donation
they provide everything needed - Bibles, wrapping material,
address labels, and pre-paid shipping bags, so you and your
family can wrap and mail Bibles and send them directly to people
in foreign lands. Being even a very small part of placing God's
Word into the hands of others in other parts of the world, has
been life-changing.
